Why is there even an American Idol? Only one artist was popular [Kelly Clarkson] and I can see Carrie Underwood following her footsteps. But the other winners.. do they only do songs based on what society likes? I was listening to Jordan Sparks songs.. and it doesn't even show off her talent. it's just repeating a few words and it sounds so fixed. is this what people like nowadays? =s
Artists hardly ever get a say on what they choose to do with their careers. They have publicists, image consultants, and producers who control their music and image. They have control over the artists do what they can do boost sales.
Until an artist basically becomes legendary, THEN they can do whatever they want. If they left it in the hands of the artist, chances are they won't become as successful as they would without these people whose jobs are to market them. [ ellegirl606's advice column | Ask ellegirl606 A Question ]

The makers don't care about how the artists do, they only care about pulling in ratings. I don't live in the USA (Australia, we have Australian Idol here and our producers are doing the same thing)
I think people are over manfucatered artists. Voters only have a small selection to choose who they'd want to win, so they may vote for who they believe derserves to win, but at the end of it, it doesn't mean they want to become fans of their work.
