Northeastern University Chem

Question Posted Saturday April 12 2008, 10:11 pm

I've been accepeted as a chem major for northeastern starting fall 2008 and i have to choose between a couple things to finalize my major. i could take the 4/5 year plan and just end with a chem degree. i could take a 5 year plan that has a bs/ms degree when i graduate. or i could take a 5 year and end with a chem bs and a minor in criminal justice (for foresics)

does anyone that has majored in a science at northeastern have an opinion on which is the best idea or what their thoughts are or any personal experiences?

Hello there,

It has become rather apparent that nobody here has majored in a science at Northeastern University.

Having given this question ample time to be answered by your specific target audience, I thought I would provide some insights that will fit all courses of study at all universities.

My advice to you is to firmly decide what it is that you want to end up doing, and research that in the real world.

For example:

If you wish to pursue a career in criminal forensics, you would then go and talk to people who are actually working in that field.

You will find many of them anxious to tell you of their experiences and help you to avoid scholastic mistakes they made along the way to their career's initial launch.

Now, to get the best start on this, you might do yourself a favor by contacting Northeastern University alumni, specifically from the chemistry department.

You can start your quest by checking out the Northeastern University Chemistry Department Alumni newsletter:

... yes, there is such a thing. :-)

You might also consider making some connections with the staff and faculty of the Chemistry Department at NEU:

... Some will refer you to admissions and others will be more than happy to talk to you, so just start calling. Note: From personal experience, try the older members first.

That is what I have to offer you in the way of advice. Enjoy figuring out your future.

Oh, and don't forget... whatever you decide you want to do for a living, make sure you talk to people who are already doing it. You will find things about the job that may change your mind, or you may find more motivation to do just that.

DN.
