so for one of my classes, we have to find a poem we like and just present (not READ) it to the class. i love poetry, and i've found a couple poems that i digggg. but i wanted to ask you guys, what's your favorite poem? i apologize, but i'd prefer if it's not a love poem because i obviously don't want my class (which consists of a couple hot upperclassmen guys) to think i'm insanee and obsessive about a guy. i like friendship poems, inspirational poems, and poems about life.
yes, i've tried google, and my two favorite so far are:
AngelofMercy answered Saturday April 12 2008, 3:28 am: Ok, here's my take on the poems you chose:
poem #1- sounds like it was written by someone in Elementary school. It has no flow, no deep meaning, no grab you by your mind and take you for a walk moments.
poem #2- To be honest, it's too cutesy. I stopped reading it after the first paragraph.
I am not sure what kind of poem you need, but I would suggest finding one that grabs you and makes you think. Find a poem that is powerful and thought provoking.
A few areas in which you may want to look would include:
Maya Angelou
E.E. Cummings
Robert Frost
Edgar Allen Poe
Emily Dickinson
Ezra Pound
Oscar Wilde
William Shakespeare (he did write poetry as well, not just plays)
Poetry is a lost art, that is never fully appreciated. People will "write" poetry now, but forget the meaning of it. "Poetry is an imaginative awareness of experience expressed through meaning, sound, and rhythmic language choices so as to evoke an emotional response." (About.com). I couldn't have said it better myself.
Poetry invites you to use your emotions to make everything inviting. It appeals to your senses and promotes thoughts. With the two that you choose, all though nice, do not have that affect that most poetry does. [ AngelofMercy's advice column | Ask AngelofMercy A Question ]
