is there a boston college and a boston university? or are they the same thing?
if so is the university like better than the college?

They're completely separate institutions.

They're similar in the sense of location (both obviously in Massachusetts) and they're both considered to be excellent schools. Since I have no idea what you want out of a college, check out those sites for yourself, in addition to www.collegeboard.com =)
If you're not from around here, Massachusetts (and actually all of New England) is known as an exceptional area for colleges, so you'll definitely find something for you. Good luck!
