Always there, always put last.

Question Posted Tuesday March 18 2008, 7:00 pm

This is more of a rant than a question but whatever, I need your opinions anyway.

Do any of you ever get tired of being the "always-there friend"? I don't mean clingy. Like, you're always there for your friends-- whenever they have a problem, need someone to talk to, to hang out with, whatever, you're always there for them. And I'm fine with that. But whenever I make a really good friend, they find a better one, more fun, more something, whatever, and hang out with them, until the new best friend either makes a new best friend themself or can't make plans on a weekend, THEN I'm called. Usually they get tired of the new friend in a few months, maybe a little longer, and come back to me, realizing eventually that I'm a better friend. But its still hard, you know? Like, am I second-rate or something?

I guess its kind of a compliment because I'm like family to them, I'll always be there, and they can say anything or do anything (well, mostly, lol, I'm thinking brother-sister fights) and I'll still love them. But still... I'm a human too, I'm not just here for your convenience.

This happens / happened with ALL my close friends. All of them.

Anyone else want to rant with me about how this happens to them... or if anyone wants to give me some advice on how to regain my status as first-rate human I'd appreciate it. :]

Hey :)

That used to happen to me.
I was the 'subsitute', the 'second hand', the 'other one.'

When one of my friends didn't have her other friends, she'd come crawling.
I felt pretty much used.
Yes, i got tired, I confronted her and things weren't pretty. Naturally, she denied it.
Now, we don't talk at all, I have my friends and she has hers.
I was stepped on, seriously, and the reason being, my height. I was assertive and strong...but short. And people thought, 'Hey, because I'm taller, I can cause crap.' It's not nice, but it's human to take advantage over any power that can be potentially kept.
Life is flowing and I have my close friends, it takes a matter of years to find them.
One of my close friends was just like that, and she does it sometimes unintentionally, but she has realised, and we all stick with each other through thick and thin.

Keep your head up, these people aren't worth your time, you don't need a best friend, at least not yet. I'm glad though, that you're seeing this positively, stay like that.
