Question Posted Wednesday February 27 2008, 6:42 pm
I am sixteen years old and I had my first period several years ago. I've only had it a few times and the last time I was on my period was probably close to a year ago. Is this okay? Is it because I am overweight? Will I be able to have children when I get older? Please Help!!!!

I started my period in the 6th grade and I was fine for a bit but then I skipped mine for a year and a half. My doctor ran some tests and they found out that I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). They gave me some pills to start my period and then put me on birth control to regulate it. I'm not sure if I can have kids because I don't know if when they take me off I'll have a period or not...but this isn't the case with everyone. Talk to your doctor and see if that could be your problem. It will help you a lot too. [ superstarblue89's advice column | Ask superstarblue89 A Question ]
Rosie2000 answered Wednesday February 27 2008, 8:33 pm: GO to the doctor. you should not wait more than 3 months. ask about PCOS and thyroid issues. weight can have an effect on it. over weight or underweight... either way go to the doctor! they need to get a blood pannel on you and figure out why your not having your period. make an appointment as soon as possible. i really hope you do. and i hope this helps.
