Laser hair removal Q's

Question Posted Tuesday February 26 2008, 11:47 pm

I am considering getting laser hair removal on my legs and had some questions about it-

a) Generally speaking, how many sessions does it take to get lasting results?

b) How effective is laser hair removal at getting rid of ingrown hairs and dots?

c) How safe is laser hair removal?

a) You will need a minimum of 6 treatments and will need to do occasional touch ups. It isn't permanent. If the hair on your legs is thick and there is lots of it, it should take at least 10 treatments with at least 4 of the treatments at a high level. If your skin is fair, you may need less treatments and will need more if your skin is darker.

b) I'm not really sure about dots. it could make acne worse but it will certainly stop you from getting ingrown hairs like when you wax. You won't get any ingrown hair because the laser doesn't pull the hair out, it just kills it so the hair fals out.

c) it depends what your skin tone is. If you have light skin then it is very safe for you. but if your skin is dark then you are more likely to burn and get hyper/hypo pigmentation.

You also need to talk to someone who is an expert at this but make sure this person is neutral and not biased. I suggest you go to a dermatologist or something.
