How Hassan keeps everything and then gets betrayed by someone he is very loyal to, Amir, all out of trust, loyalty, faith and love.
And the character Amir is, how he knows what happened that day of the Kite contest, and how he kept it a secret and pretended to NOT know about it.
Their relationship is significant because, Hassan is a loyal boy and he gets betrayed by someone he is very loyal to, who pretendes to not know things, which he knows he knows. This shows great friendhsip and loyalty, as these boys battle their secret awareness of each others knowledge.
