Well, you shouldn't be the only one holding up the conversations, and yeah, awkward silences will come up, but you'll find something to talk about. When I am in a situation like that I usually say:
"What if you met ______ what would you do?"
-The what ifs are good because they spark up conversation and it makes everything more interesting.
Or I'll comment on something like:
"Hey, look at that girl's hair..."
-they should start talking on that one, cuz we always have something to say about hair :] haha
If I did this and what ifs and ifs and comments are more interesting and really make us wanna talk to you more because you can be funny and nobody likes awkward silences or when you run out of things to say.
