Question Posted Sunday January 20 2008, 11:52 am

Okay, so what is the difference between a yeast infection and a urinary track infection? [NO LINKS!]
Because I can litterally [warning this is gross] pull a string of discharge from my "v" where the discharge comes out. It is gloppy, and gross,[comes out like whitish very light pale, but dries yellow] and this has been going on for a while. I am not sexually active, I never have been, I don't "fool around"...SO WHAT IS THIS? help me please, I don't know what to do, I haven't told my mom and I don't want to....and I just want to know what it is without going to see a gyno...thanks in advance.

Yeast infection...An infection mainly caused by fungi of the genus Candida.

urinary tract infection...
An infection of one or more structures in the urinary tract. Gramnegative bacteria cause most of these infections

Yeast infection in a fungal infection and you can get it almost anywhere. A UTI is bacterial and is
in the urinary tract.

It really doesn't matter the definition
of either. You have something going on
that you need to see a doctor about. The
longer you wait the worse it will get.
Left untreated it may affect your kidneys
among other things leaving you with
lifelong problems.

Say something to your mom & see a doctor.

EDIT>>>

I know it seems scary but you be fine. It
isn't unusual at all. Just don't let it go
out of fear to talk to mom about it. Some
antibiotics or something depending on the
problem and you will be good to go. :)

A yeast infection is vaginal. A UTI (Urinary Tract Infection), is an infection of the urinary tract, i.e. urethra (the passage through which you're urine goes into the outside world), bladder, etc.

You need to tell your mom. Everyone gets yeast infections once in a while, some more than others. She won't think that you are sexually active, just that a mean little bacteria made its home in your vagina.

From your description, it could well be a yeast infection, although you will need a doctor to make sure. You can get over the counter medication (there are a lot to choose from, and I don't know your budget), or prescription meds.

I would just tell your mom and see what she decides to do, to take you to a doctor or to just buy some over the counter medication.
