if that doesnt work, which most of the time it only works for like a minute, than watch a movie that has nothing to do with what you're thinking about. go hang out with some friends or read a good book for a few minutes. just, distract yourself.
also, its good to write your thoughts down. its like releasing them. i have a personal xanga that only i can read and write in. its online at www.xanga.com and its great because writing in a journal cramps your hand up, typing is so much easier and faster.
