Fitness planning/motivating

Question Posted Thursday January 3 2008, 6:11 pm

This summer I'm going to the mediterranean with my school, including a short cruise. My concern is that i am slightly overweight (i fluxuate near 207, but im only 6' tall, and i don't exercise enough). I want to enjoy myself, without being embarressed, and i want to feel healthy in general. My diet isnt really bad, i eat fairly normal portions of well rounded foods, and i avoid junk foods when possible. I want to know if anyone has any daily routines they do to keep in shape, and an estimated length of time before visible effects would occur. Also, if anyone has tips to get motivated (im usually a procrastinator) that would be nice. 15/m

As you said, your diet is good, so that is a great start! Just make sure that you are eating enough and have a healthy diet. However, try to stay away from pop! Also, it is said that people who eat breakfast in the morning have healthier weights, and don't try to eat past 7 o'clock because your stomach is not able to digest your food as easily when you sleep.
I usually try to plan my excercises on the days. So for example (I play lacrosse and I have to go to physical therapy for my knees), I plan to go to physical therapy on monday, thursday and friday, and I run on tuesdays. Then on Wednesday I'll go out and practice lacrosse and maybe go running too. Then on the weekend I'm involved with indoor lacrosse. So I would reccomed joining a sport! Around where I live, we have a program called GEYA that you can participate in. They basically have all the sports you can think of, but you don't have to be a pro at it. So if i wanted to, i could basically try playing any sport i want. I've played soccer for 13 years, but we had a coed soccer team, and i played for that. It was really great because i got to meet a whole bunch of new people, but at the same time i was excercising. The way I see it, when you have sports, you basically have to go, so that's what keeps me in shape and "motivates me".
I would also ask your friends for help! Maybe ask if they want to hang out on the weekend and maybe go to some kind of sports place. Though it doesn't seem like it, laser tag is a great way to get in shape. Its really fun because you're running around everywhere! Just little activities that you can do in which you are active are always great.
by the way, if you're going for the really in shape 6 pack, you have to lose the stomach fat first, and then do excercises such as cruches or sit-ups to condition the muscle.

Good luck! and have fun on your trip!

well, it seems as if your on a nice start
as for motivation look online at ppl who are overweight and tell yourself you dont want to be this way
also think about how nice it will feel not be self concious when you are on the beach :)
and go to the weight room with your friends, push each other!
