Question Posted Sunday December 30 2007, 3:47 pm

AngelofMercy, I am grateful for your advice, but I been there done that. I did construction for over seven years for utility companies, and have 4 years of office and site supervisor experience. My wife is going to school in january to complete her nursing degree and I will follow in another skilled trade. I am on current call for 5 temp to hire services, and no luck. I even went down to general labor and am trying to use my state issued forklift liscense to find something. there's just nothing here. any ideas?? Thank you for helping me the way that u did, by the way. If you can come up with something I haven't thought of, let me know please.

My husband is in the same boat as you are right now. He has fallen on hard times too right now, he tries the best he can, which I am grateful for. I can't work right now due to illnesses, so I can't contribute to our finances. I tried about 2 months ago, but I couldn't follow through. I am so sorry that you are having problems. I only suggested the things I know my husband has tried doing and at some suceeded (sp?). I am not sure if I mentioned putting an ad in the local newspaper offering trade work. Sometimes, a person can get a lot of work this way, especially if it is detailed enough to understand the full capacity in which you can offer services. For instance, computer work, general handy man work, gardening work, anything that you know you can do and make money from. It's just a matter of being resourceful.

I definitely do not want to be to personal here, but I would suggest going to your local DHS office to see if they can help in your desperate time of need. They can offer medical, food stamps, baby formula, schooling help, job placement, monetary means (while going to school). There are all kinds of charitable locations that can help with the needs of your children. If you have a local church, maybe see if they can help out. Maybe, they may be able to help get your name around to do side work and give you some sort of help.

Another option, if your area has garage/yard sales still at this time of year, you can go and see if you can find real inexpensive items that you may think would sell good on e-bay. This may be something you could do for spare money or emergency money.

Also, if your wife has any spare time, she could offer to baby sit someone's children for them while they work, or have a night out. Right now, any extra income will help.

I wish nothing but the best of luck for you. Remember, once you hit bottom, the only place to go from there is up. If you need any more help, advice, or just someone to rant to, I'm here. Good Luck!!
