You get pregnant when you are ovulating. If you have an extremely normal regular cycle, you will ovulate right in between periods. Most women do not have such a predictable cycle. So, if a guy ejaculates in you, you have a chance of being pregnant. The only sure fire way to avoid it (short of surgery, anyway) is abstinence. Birth control (condoms, the pill, the shot, etc.) is the next option. Of course, if you are trying to get pregnant, have sex all the time.
