fingerprints?

is there a way to mess up your finger print...not that i am thinking of doing it but the question has been bugging me for a while. I herd if you slice your fingers the print will eventually grow over it...is this true? why?

I hear that you can cut them, burn them, or rub them off...but I'm not sure...

fingerprints are so amasing, no one really knows why they are this way.
the only answer i can think of is teh God made them this way and so they are
but yes the fingerprint can get messed up with a cut but they show up when the cut is healed
