If it's not on a playlist that is synced onto your iPod, then it won't be on there. If it still doesn't work, I suggest you tell iTunes that you want to manually manage your music. To do this:
1. Connect your iPod and open up iTunes.
2. From the Library drag and drop the song(s) onto the iPod icon.
It also may not be iPod compatible format. Did you get it somewhere besides iTunes? You may have to 1. Burn them onto a CD and import them. (Protected files.) or 2. Convert them to MP3 format. (Unprotected files.)

or go to itunes library and right click, slect the button convert selection to AAC. and then put the one it makes onto your ipod..
