field hockey

Question Posted Sunday December 9 2007, 5:23 pm

I always thought that field hockey was really fun, but I never played it before on a team, just for recreation. I'm starting high school next year, and I really want to try out, but I have these questions:
1. What kind of things would I have to do at tryouts?
2. What are practices like?
3. How long are games?
4. What should I do at tryouts to best make myself a good pick for the team?
5. How many people are on teams?

Thanks in advance!

i loveee fieldd hockeyy i just got back from a tournament hahha
1)its basics, because at my school, most people come having never played. and my high school hold national records, such as the most consecutive wins of state champs in the country (9 straight), as well as winning 13 state championships, and also we have the record for most years going to states (18 years). anyways, as long as you get a stick now, and just do like pulls and stuff like that during commercials for tv for example, you should be fine. also, you could join an indoor team. like a winter team (its what i just came back from) they are what makes a player very veryyy good. (thats how i got good...im pretty good haha)
2) drills. like 3vs2s. sometimes scrimmages. defenesive and offensive stuff. practicing corners (which are penalties)
3) jv games are 25 minute halves, varsity are 30 minutes (it could change state to state, though)
4) look driven! and do a lot of communication: liek "got ball" "wide/through" (wide=way out open to the side--horizontally, through means open vertically, like straight ahead), and be a fast runner.
5) theyre are 11 players (including goalie,) so teams could range from 15-25 players. normally about 20, though so you can do scrimmages. are team is 22, though so you can do 11 vs 11.
i hope i answered you questions, and i'm soo happy your interested in field hockey! its greatt =]
