Acanthosis Nigricans.

Question Posted Saturday November 24 2007, 12:43 am

A dermatoligist told me I had Acanthosis Nigricans, which is basicly a darkness of skin around the neck(have it), Armpit(have it), and groin(have THAT too) oh and the uncommon places where I have it are the inside of my elbow and knuckles.
The doctor said it might go away if I lose weight. Well I was diagnosed with AN in like July of this year, and I haven't lost any weight.. Ive actually probably gained.
Im going to the Hostpital Tuesday for a blood test again, to see if im a Daibetic. I dont wanna be diabetic im only 14.. and if I am I might die. And im not over exagerating.. my condition of NA is being obese, and that means im insulin resistant which means that I cant take the medication i need..
I wanna lose weight I wanna be able to wear a batheing suit, and a size 12 jeans.. not a 16. I wanna lose 100 pounds. I need to make like a deadline. A goal more likely that this weight will be off and I want it gone by next summer but thats not realistic at all.. so maybe next Christmas?? I weigh 220 pounds and its not normal and I want to be able to fit in Aeropostale or something =\. All the weight is in my stomach and thigns. How many crunchs should i do Daily, I cant run whatso ever... not in publis where people can see me.I do have a walker its slightly broken but useable. But my family would laugh its that kind of family so dont say nooo they'll be happy u wanna lose weight because they wont They'll laugh. My goal is to be in a size 10 by this summer if im a size 16-18 is that reasonable??
and if i walk how long should I?
And any other exersize u know that works on losing weight in the stomach area would be awsome!

I think it's really great that you want to lose weight and it's important that you do as you said because of your medical conditions. I'm not sure that you should have a goal of a size because then if you don't reach that goal you may be discouraged. I think what your goal should be is just to work on losing weight. not a certain amount just anything at all right now. I want you to understand that excercising your butt off is not the only step needed to lose weight. You need to take in a lesser amount of calories than you are right now. I don't know how many you currently take in, but you can start by switiching to diet sodas and limiting your deserts to one peice of pie or one bowl of ice cream a day. You also need to start counting your calories. I would suggest taking in maybe 2500 right now? and then decreasing to 2000 after you have made some progress in losing weight. You should keep a log so you don't forget what you've eaten. You can eat anything you want, but it HAS to be in moderation. I've recently lost 30 lbs. I was 130 and im now 100 lbs, so I know what I'm talking about and let me tell you that the first couple of days is the hardest, but after that it becomes sort of a habit. Everytime you think you want something that you know you shouldn't have think, "Do I want to have this food and be happy for the five minutes it takes to eat it or do i want to be happy in life and be skinny for a long time?" Ask yourself these questions and you wont go wrong. Also, Cardio is the best way to burn calories. If you don't feel comfortable running in public, do you have treadmill? and if not then walking is better than nothing. You could walk for maybe an hour or so a day or maybe you could join curves? The atmosphere there is so friendly and not everyone is a stick so you wont feel out of place, but i do believe you need a parent to do so. I think that talking to your parents and telling them that you are serious about this and that they need to buy healthy foods would help because even though you say they will laugh, How can they laugh when their daughter is having serious medical problems because of her weight? You'll look and feel better if you take the steps to do it, i promise you that.

Hope this helped :)
btw: Im 14/f also and if you want to talk ask for my sn in my feedback and ill be happy to motivate you. It's always easier if you have someone to motivate you and sometimes its easier if you dont know that person =)

GOOD LUCK!

For the last site, also try the links at the bottom of the page. And most importantly, keep a positive attitude! Believe in yourself, try your hardest and never give up! You can also get a workout buddy so you can encourage each other to keep going. Good luck!
