i started my period yesterday, and i think im letting out alot of blood, it seems like i change my pad every 2 or 3 hours. is that normal?

Its fine.
Most girls start out really light, but it differs. I can't really tell you if its completely normal or not because I don't know what kind of pads your using and stuff like that. 2-3 hours generally isn't bad though. If its really bad and you start feeling light headed(Which i dont think will happen) you need to go to the doctor.
A normal period for a girl who has had one a bit is usually heavy the first few days =] so its nothing to worry about.
