Simply put - it is said that God has a special plan for everyone, and that part of that plan is a bright future, we should trust him, and leave all our troubles with him and all that.. but then why is it that there are so many people, who once upon a time used to be just like me - a teenager, with dreams, and hopes for my future - some even christians who trust in God very much - who end up on the street? Why are there so many loyal christians (Like my mother for example) who end up with bad husbands? It doesnt seem right that they once used to be just like me.. with dreams and hopes, trusting that God would make it happen.. and then STILL end up.. well, miserable.
Should I really trust that He takes care of everything?? Or should I just study hard and try to pursue my dreams on my own? Doesnt that seem wiser?
(I'm falling apart here.. I want to trust Him, sometimes I do.. but from where I'm standing.. my future doesnt seem very bright).
The bible says in Psalm 37:4-5, "Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act." (ESV)
That means if you delight yourself in what God has for you, you will be fulfilled; you will find joy no matter what things look like in the world around you. I can speak from personal experience that once you seek out God's plan and He reveals it to you, you will look at your plans and thank God you listened to Him.
In our minds, it may SEEM wiser to rally our strength and go after our dreams if it appears God isn't cooperating, but God is much MUCH bigger than our dreams. God showed me a vision once that has stuck in my mind. The vision was this: He and I were in space. He was so big that all I could see was His hand. Off in a far distance was planet earth that looked like the size of a gulf ball. As I stood there in awe looking at His huge hand and then the earth, He said, "Which do you want?" I could've chose the world (my plans) but instead I climbed up into His hand. That vision showed me just how big my Daddy in heaven really was and always will be.
You see, God gave us all hopes and dreams, talents and abilities, but what people do is add what they think it should look like and if it doesn't look like what they thought it should, many dump God and go their own way. One can certainly do that, but that person will never truly know the joy of God's plan. God's thoughts are like a beach that goes on for miles 'n miles 'n miles. Our thoughts are like a single grain of sand. If a person is truly trusting God to guide them, they will conform to God's plan no matter what the circumstances in their life. I know that is easier said than done. And I know it's hard when the sinful nature (self desires) rises up in us and wants to win, but God is bigger, wiser, and Holy.
I don't know each circumstance of why people end up on the street, but I'll bet it's one of two things...either the Lord has made that their mission field (which would mean they are out there spreading the gospel and winning souls for Christ)or, more likely, it's from the bad choices they have made and they really weren't completely trusting God.
God did not promise a life with no troubles, but He did promise life more abundantly for those who have a relationship with Him through Jesus (John 10:10). We just need to grab hold of Him and hang on; especially through the hard times.
