The most obvious reason is for protection (to support your breasts) but there's lots more, for example:
For warmth, for comfort (stops your clothes from rubbing at your sensitive areas), for hygiene and for sanity reasons. Although if you don't want to wear it and you aren't exposing yourself to the public, that's fine.
