viruses

Question Posted Sunday November 11 2007, 9:02 pm

Okay on my desktop computer it says I have like 48754 viruses, not literally.
but yeah.

Ive tried to do the system restore on it but it wont work.
My backround changed on my computer, it went completely black. & it said my i.p address. & that it said someone has gotten a hold of your computer and stuff.

I dont know what to do about it, I have limewire if that helps, alot of people have told me that limewire can give you a virus.

also lately it has been telling me that there is "virtual memory loss" I have no idea what that means, if this helps I have a compaq computer. We have gotten it cleaned out numerous amount of times but we still have viruses.
Please help.

The type of virus you're infected with is called smitfraud. Run combofix to remove it:
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
Save the logfile it gives you. If you get help from malware removal forums in the future, you will need it.

That will remove most of the virus, though you may notice some odd behavior that remains. You might have to reinstall windows to completely remove that.

Don't use combofix for any other virus. It only works on certain ones.

heyyy. looks like you need some computer help. viruses can be ruthless. first thing you can do, is try to get a system cleaner online. they will indentify viruses and delete them from memory. those usually cost money tho. alright option 2. you can try to locate the source of your problem and isolate it. delete all files downloaded from limewire, and search through windows files to look for anything imbedded that does not belong. this is hard and requires good knowledge of windows. option 3. you can try to be a nerd and reformat your harddrive, this takes a decent amount of computer knowledge and can really mess up your computer if you dont know how to do it. you would need to back up important stuff on discs or external harddrives, however whatever you carry over may carry viruses too. you would need a copy of windows, and the drivers for hardware. option 4, my favorite. take it to a computer store and have them fix it!! takes money but its the best thing to do. ultimately if you have enough knowledge to open a computer repair shop than you do need one, but otherwise take it to a professional. they will have all the software needed to fix your computer hopefully. virtual memory loss sounds like it may be a problem with your graphics card, do you play a lot of computer games? or movies?

i had limewire, and it gave my desktop like a zillion viruses, too.
the only way to fix it is to COMPLETELY restart your computer. like reset it and everything.
unfortunately, youll lose all of your files unless you have them saved to discs or whatever.
