This same situation happens to me all the time. its a very easy thing to fix. You reset your ipid. Press the center button and the Menu button of the clickwheel at the same time, then your ipod will reset, you'll see the apple sign come up. then it will start downloading the songs again and will show up on the sidebar iof itunes. I hope i helped! xoxo emily

I think you need to open up iTunes BEFORE you plug in your iPod. That's happened to me before. If you want iTunes to open immediately after you plug in your iPod, you'll need to change/check your settings. (I'm not sure if you actually can, but I'm also not sure how to either, sorry. Although I've seen that option before.) I remember when I didn't have iTunes, I just charged my iPod on my computer. If your iPod's charging without showing up on iTunes, you should check if there's a little icon at the right of your taskbar. (My computer may be different than yours, but where the START button is, at the end right, should be a time, and some icons.) Put your mouse over the icons that are currently showing, (but I think it should have a green arrow in it?), and see if it says something about "Apple" double-click on it, and when your done charging it, click STOP (for all of them). Then you can unplug your iPod. Make sure you do that before you unplug your iPod. Hope this helps!
