It can depend on what you're getting. I recently got Gardasil, which is an HPV vaccination to help prevent cervical cancer and it caused a sore, burning sensation all over my entire arm for about an hour or so after I'd gotten the shot- and I got the shot in my shoulder.

Sometimes shots are given in the muscle of your arm, or right in the pressure points, where it will leave a painful sensation longer than a shot that was given in a place with less nerve endings. I don't know if it's necessary to shoot it into muscle points; you should ask the nurse that you have.
