Question Posted Thursday November 1 2007, 3:45 pm

Me and my boyfriend have sex sometimes. About five months ago he got mono and got a white layer of something on the back of his tounge, Alot of it. He got medichine for mono and it cleared the white stuff up. Today i realized he had it again, Alot of it. And i'm scared for him. We are not sure what it is, But we're hopeing its not STD realated. I've never got tested, And he was a virgin and not born with anything. But i've gotten a pap smear and i've taken that new test "yest infection or something eles" And i came out fine. I cant find anything online about this. But resently i had BV and i thought i got rid of it. He gave me oral. And my BV is back. Could this have anything to do with it? Thank you so much.

Sounds like he picked up a case of thrush along with the mono. His immune system was weakened by the virus that gave him mono, and so the Candida yeast moved in and set up residence on his tongue. Acidophilus pills will help, as will yogurt.

Your immune system may have kept the yeast under control but allowed something else in his mouth to set up residence, which touched off the BV. So, strictly speaking, it's STD related, but nothing major. Do what you need to do to clear up the BV, and perhaps lay off the oral sex for a while. If you're seriously concerned, talk to your respective doctors. (He definitely should, if he's got thrush.)

Hope this helps
