Opening a document

My friend sent me a birthday card but I am having trouble opening it. It says it is a WPS file. I'm not too sure what this means. And I can't seem to open it. I downloaded a file converter but it didn't work at all. Can anyone help me? She has put in a lot of effort to make this for me. Thanks so much to anyone who can help.

You should advise your friend to use the OpenDocument format instead of proprietary formats like WPS. OpenDocument will never change; in 20 years you'll be able to open all of your old documents. As you can see with your troubles, proprietary formats are replaced every few years. The first two of these will open a WPS file, and all of them can save in ODF:
