Persuading

Question Posted Friday October 12 2007, 6:28 am

I am going to deliver a persuasive speech ("Support indie films") next week and I have absolutely no idea how to actually "persuade" my classmates. I have my speech plan, but I don't think it's enough. What can I try doing or saying on the actual delivery? I need tips! I suck at public speaking, belive me.

Thanks in advance!

Believe what you're saying--thats the number one thing. If you don't believe it, convince yourself that you do. Have faith that you're right (at least while you're giving your speech) and that no matter what, your position on the topic is the correct one.

Keep your chin up. Breathe. I think breathing is the number one piece of advice I give to people, and it sounds cliche, but it works. It will calm your nerves, steady your voice, and you won't run out of breath halfway through your sentence.

Project your voice, and talk slowly. If you think you're talking too slowly, chances are you're doing it just right.

Pretend you're debating one other person. Concentrate on what you're saying, not who you're saying it to, or why you're saying it.

It really is about believing in your speech, and believing what you say. Fake it 'til you make it' if all else fails!

Even though you might not be the best at public speaking (im not) they dont have to know that, keep ur head up make eye contact and try and relax.
Try to keep some expression in your voice and dont just speak in a monotone voice.
