how can i make it so a picture shows up of someone when they're calling me on my i870 nextel phone?

I'm not 100% sure on your particular phone, but on my phone there is a way.
When you edit your contacts there is usually an option for picture ID...
It's the same as when you choose a ringer for a single person, how it usually says something along the lines of ringer ID. It should be the same thing except it should say picture.

I guess I'm not sure if that will help because I don't have a nextel, I have an LG from alltel...

The feature is called Picture Caller ID, refer to your manual for specific instructions.
