"Keep you eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwods." Does anyone know what Benjamin Franklin meant by this quote??

Well, in my humorous ways I think it means keep your eyes wide open before you keep married, because one you do you'll only be looking through half-shut eyes once you finally do get married. You won't want to see anymore, very scary, haha! Sorry, had to have a little fun there, but really, the first answer sounds much more correct.

I think it means you should keep your eyes open for someone to marry but once you find them dont keeping looking for someone else. In other words dont cheat.
