Extracted Files Directory

Question Posted Wednesday September 19 2007, 9:16 pm

Okay, I am having troubles with this software, and their tech support contacted me in response to my problem, sending me an attached .inf file. They said to "place the attached .inf file* in the extracted files directory".

The problem is, where is the extracted files directory located on your computer?

They worded that strangely. They want you to put it in the application's folder in C:program files. So if the program is named XYZ, you open C:program filesXYZ and drag the ini file into it. Sometimes they use the company's name instead of the program's name.

They called it the "extracted files directory" because an installation file (or install CD) is basically just an archive file. It's a zip, cab, 7z, or rar file that gives you choices and extracts the included files to a directory, usually %systemroot%program files<company name> by default.
