paxil

Question Posted Friday September 7 2007, 9:15 pm

I just started taking paxil today. I know with antidepressants, there is a risk of weight gain. And this might sound stupid, but do you gain weight because the drug makes you want to eat more or is it something like retaining water? Thank you.

It actually makes you more hungry and thirsty. To stop weight gain, you should make sure you eat the same amounts of everything, and to drink only water. It also makes you feel weak, like you're starving to death (you're not, don't worry).

It's different for everyone. I know more about Zoloft, but I assume they're similar. Another side effect is weight LOSS. I don't think the changes are usually that significant. It's not guaranteed to happen, it's just on there as a precaution. A lot of prescriptions have that, I think it's your body's way of adjusting to it.

If you find yourself expereincing side effects, your doctor can help you out by adjusting dosages and such. He'll know a lot more than we will.

Hope that helped!
