Meeting new people in class.

Question Posted Thursday September 6 2007, 5:58 pm

Okay, none of my good friends are in any of my classes. I'm not good at talking to new people, so I was wondering what are some good ways to talk to the new people. Even ways just to strike up conversation with the people sitting around me.

Thanks.

Most of the time, I ask someone for a pencil because I 'forgot' mine. Then when they hand you one, look at a watch or bracelet or something and compliment it and ask where they got it. Most of the time, it's a good ice-breaker. Introduce yourself and ask them about their hobbies and stuff like that.
You're bound to have something in common with a lot of people if you ask them a few questions.

okay. Here's what you should do.

Tell the person
"hey cool bag. where'd you get it?" Compliments work

Or if you saw someone on stagand is in your class
"You were the one who sang on stage, right?

Or the ever famous academic strategy
"Do you get this?"

When the conversation starts, work it on until "where do you have lunch?"

Better ask a new kid...
