Proactiv

Question Posted Tuesday August 28 2007, 3:02 am

im a 13 year old girl and i've had pimples ever since I started puberty around the time I was 10. they are mostly small, with a few big ones, but you can't really notice unless you close to me. they are really annoying cause in pictures you can see them and when i feel my face i feel the little bumps and sometimes i pick them and make them worse. i try using some things but they dont work.. i wash my face 2 times a day, i drink as much water as i can.. stuff like that. so i want to know if proactiv is the right choice. does it really work like it says it does on the commercials? like or will it be too harsh for my skin.. cause once i took something that was too strong and it like temporarily scarred my face. im black by the way. otherwise, what else can i do to fix this problem? thanks for helping!

ProActiv which is sold on television as well as oer the counter products such as Clearsil, OXY etc. etc. do not always take care of problems like this. Why? None of them contain medication that will actually eat away at what causes the problem and make it so it doesn't return.

You need to visit a dermatologist and get a prescription cream for your acne and red bumps. A family doctor can give you a referal but may not be able to give you a prescription. Sometimes family doctors have small sample tubes you can try and see if it makes a difference.

Above all NEVER pick at the pimples or bumps as you'll only make it ten times worse and it will take longer to go away. Also, tell the doctor upfront that X cream was too strong and scarred your face for awhile. They'll make sure you get the right prescription.

Also, the cream may have burned your face as you may have used more than suggested and or more often than suggested as yes it can/will burn your face if not careful because it's supposed to burn and eat away at the pimples (not your skin) when used properly. I've had it burn me so I appreciate what you went through.

I recommend ProActiv's sulfur mask. That works wonders, but the rest doesn't really work.
