Last night, I put my tampon in around 10 pm and this morning I was planning on putting a new one on and I completely forgot until about say 2pm. I'm really worried that I may have gotten toxic shock syndrome from this. I know I shouldn't have left it in that long, but I was in a hurry and it slipped my mind :( Is there anyway to tell if I have it because my parents are going to be two hours away tomorrow and I'm scared I'll show symptoms while they're gone?
the_unexpected answered Saturday August 25 2007, 8:18 pm: If you had TSS, you would know, the symptoms other people put are pretty accurate but just so you know it's not just from tampons it can be from any object that you leave in your vagina for a long time. Star_Bar86 answered Saturday August 25 2007, 5:31 pm: Don't worry honey, you'll be fine. It's VERY rare when this occures. Usually when people get toxic shock symdrom, it's the gross people that leave a tampon in for like 3 days or something and it becomes a bacteria haven!
You'll be fine, I promise :)
Just to be sure, if you start breaking out in a rash all over your entire body, vomiting, bloodshot eyes, and severe headache..THEN you might want to contact your doctor. [ Star_Bar86's advice column | Ask Star_Bar86 A Question ]
Catlovers141 answered Saturday August 25 2007, 1:46 pm: First, relax. Toxic Shock Syndrome is extremely rare, so chances are you don't even have it. Actually, TSS has been linked to a certain type of tampon which has now been taken off the market. It is still possbicle to get TSS, but it isn't very likely.
But, I will tell you the symptoms just in case. They are: sudden high fever, a flat rash, feeling faint, watery diarrhea, and low blood pressure.
In the future, to prevent TSS you should wash your hands in addition to changing the tampons regularly (but I know you know this). Washing your hands is important because the bacteria can be transferred to anywhere on the body.
Good luck with everything, and please try not to worry. Write anytime. :)
Grazia answered Saturday August 25 2007, 1:40 pm: Dont worry. Its very common to forget. TSS is REALLY rare, and you would have already shown some symptoms... headache, coughing vomiting, fever etc. My mum forgot it for 3 DAYS when she was young. Thats not a freaky way of hiding the fact that I forgot it that long. It really was my mum. And shes perfectly fine... even though sometimes I think shes crazy :P [ Grazia's advice column | Ask Grazia A Question ]
