Should I, or should I not?

Question Posted Friday August 24 2007, 7:26 am

Well I am 14/f. and I drink...not regularly or anything..but like if I go to concerts I will drink...or if I hang around with my friends, we will drink. My parents (obviously) do not know..but I don't think I should be drinking. The law in my country is that you have to be 16 to drink..
I just need advice.
btw. I'm not addicted to drinking... :)..and I have never been drunk. I've just been tipsy.

Well, I'm straight edge and I don't believe in drinking, smoking, & drugs. So I don't think you should be drinking regardless of your age. You shouldn't drink period...

I think that if you drink with your friends and when they're around, as you've said in your question, it's time to get a new group of friends that will NOT drink or do anything illegal...such as drinking illegally. I'm getting the sense that your friends are triggering your want to drink & if friends let you drink alcohol, than I believe they're not that great of ones.

Get a rubber band on your wrist and everytime you have the urge to drink/you drink, snap it. Make a list of "punishments" that you will have to do if you do drink. [example: grounding yourself for a week or something like that]

Hmm, so, yeah. You shouldn't drink period...or until you're 16. Kids who drink in their teen years are more likely to become alcoholics in the future so keep that in mind. You might not be addicted now but you will be in the future if you're not careful. Try to avoid your friends that drink or firmly tell them that you do not want to drink. If they pressure you to do so, then you know that they're not being the best of friends. Try meeting new people [friends] that you can hang out with that you can hang out with or go to concerts with that won't let your drink..or do anything illegal.

Just to let you know that parents will find out about everything you hide from them in one way or another. I don't know how they do it but they do in the end and your parents won't be too happy to find out that you've been drinking although you're still a minor. And if it leaks out to the wrong group of people, you could easily land someone in jail/juvie.

You should read that...see if you still think alcohol is appealing then.

Good luck

15/f
