animal crackers
why do animal crackers have random holes on them? here's a picture if you don't know what i'm talking about:

The holes that all crackers and thin cookies have are so they bake evenly and don't bubble.

HAHAHA nice picture =]
I think the holes are part of the cracker. Saltines & such, they have the same thing. I think it helps the cookie bake evenly, like cutting slits in a piecrust.

my guess would be that when they bake and cool bubbles pop and make holes like that.
