Sing Openly.

Question Posted Thursday August 9 2007, 7:12 pm

16/F My whole life consists of singing. It's all I ever want to do. My problem is: in public...I can't sing along to a song unless I'm asked to and everyone puts their full attention on me. I like to sing Country, Rock and R&B mainly. What's stopping me, is that I always make songs my own and can't always blend with the artist. How do I overcome this? Overall, I'd say I'm pretty comfortable with my voice. I just don't want to make it seem like I'm a show-off, but I need people to know I'm into singing because I want to share what makes me happy with those surrounding me. Thank you!

IT'S GOOD THAT YOU MAKE IT YOUR OWN! It just shows you're original! I'm a vocalist too, and my focus is broadway. i don't know about you though, you might be a pop singer or something.

don't try to make yourself blend with the artist. it causes you to sing nasally and that sounds bad.

and i would suggest taking voice lessons even if you're one of those singers who is like "i've never had a lesson in my life"

you might think it will mess up your voice or change it a lot, but voice lessons can only do one thing- improve your voice/technique. but that's if you're serious about singing.

good luck!

hmm... definitely sing in public, if it makes you happy and it's not morally wrong then wing it!
You are not a show off if you change the song some what to make it your own, there is nothing wrong with that, either sing with pride however you want, or get music lessons which would help you blend better with the song
