It was a 17 hour shoot last December. I had an agent (Background Agent) and was booked on the job. I was an audience member for the Corny Collins pieces.
I saw Michelle Pfieffer, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes, Britney Snow, James Marsden, Nikki Blonsky and Zac Efron, Rikki Lake among others. Travolta and Walken had wrapped several days earlier unfortunately.
The on-set rule is that you never approach the actors or risk being kicked off the shoot. If they approach you and others it's different. I was there for only a day worth of shooting that particular number. It took them 8 days in all.
If you want to do this kind of thing get a Background Talent agent in a big city nearest you. Go through the Screen Actors Guild in the U.S. or ACTRA in Canada and get their list of reputable agents then sign with one. ]
