Cux answered Monday July 30 2007, 12:14 am: It means that someone has kept their last name- but also took on their spouse's last name. So like let's say we have Betty Jones. Betty marries Mike Smith. She wants to keep her last name, but take on her husbands too. Her new name is Betty Jones-Smith or Betty Smith-Jones. I'm not sure of the order.
It could also mean that your parents got remarried- and your mom married another man. I'm not sure how that works out, though. One of my sort-of friends has a hyphenated last name.
