Question Posted Friday July 27 2007, 5:24 pm

On monday I was very sick and I went to the doctors i was diagnosed with mono yesterday it came back with my bloodwork and my blood count was super high. Its been 5 days and my throat is now feeling much better than before i can finally swallow and im feeling hungry and i feel like i will finally be able to eat. I was just wondering if anyone has had mono on this site and how to deal with it, because its summer and i dont want to be stuck inside any longer. and for how long will i be contaigous to others?

I have mono right now! Horrid, isn't it? I actually had mono at the end of June. I feel your pain! The sore throat is definitely one of the worst things with mono. I was on the couch for days. Actually, they believed I had strep and gave me Amoxicilian which cured my throat. Unfortunately, if you have mono and are taking amox. you break out in a nasty rash. So do not take Amoxicilian. I know that its summer, but believe me, staying inside is a good thing. I still have 4 more weeks to go [8 total]. If you go out for long periods of time, you're going to get extremely run down & feel so tired. Your body will ache. Also, your spleen may become enlarged [if it isn't already]. I would avoid exercise such as running & contact sports until you're feeling better. You should be able to go out regularly by September when school starts. Do not ignore sleep & resting. I'm probably sounding hypocritical because I went out myself, but trust me, it isn't worth it. If you keep going out, your mono can relapse & then you'll be indoors for extra months & could even miss a ton of school work. Everyone is different so I would avoid kissing and that for a bit. Someone told me that you are contagious up to 2 weeks after the sore throat. By mid August you shouldn't be contagious anymore, but I'm not totally sure. No one gave me a straight answer about how long you are actually contagious for, so if you find out, leave me an inbox! haha. Good luck. I definitely know how you feel. Rest & drink fluids & sleep when you need it. Listen to your body & you'll be fine.

-hope that helped!♥
