Hair relaxer's..Yes or No??

Question Posted Wednesday July 18 2007, 10:50 pm

Alright, so basically, my hair is really frizzy, dry, coarse, think, and hard to manage. It takes me forever just to straighten it. And even then it doesn’t look shiny and smooth. So I was wondering, are relaxers good for your hair? You know the ones that you can buy in a box at the store. Because I've literally tried everything, but nothing helps my hair, believe me.

Also...What exactly are relaxers supposed to do for your hair? Thanks in advance!

Hey, in one mag, Cosomo girl, or 17, it says stuff about a hair style for frizzy hair, that layed down great but wasn't...like...I dunno. Anyway, you might want to look for that in there, I think it is the new one.

Have you tried when you first get out of the shower, to rise your hair with cold water? It has worked. Oh, and the frizzy-ness could have to do with the weather outside...which could be why it is really frizzy. XD

And I've never used relaxers...hang on, lemme look these up...

Wow, I'm pretty glad I look those up...here is a website from google (gotta love google)

And here is something else, about a girl wanting to do it, and her hair stylist was against it.

^^ Good luck!

Oh! My friend has the same problem with her hair, but she does something to where, she puts something in her hands and then bunches her hair together and it makes it look....really good. It is from Garnier. It isn't a shampoo or anything, it is a styling product.

Well I've never tried the relaxers from the stores. I've always had mine done in the salon. I wouldnt recommend you doing it yourself unless you are pretty confident in what you are doing. There are 2 kinds of relaxers. Semi-permanent and Permanent. It works the same as hair color. Semi-Permanent temporarily straightens your hair and will eventually fade out. Permanent is in there until new hair grows back. Just as hair color, you have to keep up with roots because your hair will grow back naturally. So you'll have to treat the new growth. Which can get tricky if you arent a professional. A relaxer takes the curl out of your hair and it makes your hair soft and smooth. I had hair like you the first time I ever had it done and I was AMAZED at the results. It is much easier to straighten now and it feels very soft. It's still thick, but its not as bad when it's straight. I'm not sure how effective the D-I-Y relaxers are because like I said I've had mine done in a salon. But to get my entire head done it was about 90 dollars. Then touch ups are cheaper because it's just the roots. Makes sense no? I dont know what else to say I think I have said all I could so I hope I helped you.

Before I go, just a tip, basic rule of a relaxer is once its in your hair you CANNOT get it wet AT ALL for 3 days. No spray, no water, no washing it, no nothing for 3 days. I also found that avoiding situations where you could sweat also help because when you sweat, your scalp gets wet too. Just a hint of advice. If you need to know anything else please let me know!

Good Luck!!
