Running.

Question Posted Sunday July 15 2007, 7:14 pm

I want to start running, but I have a few question.
How long for?
How many times a week?
What kind of shoes?
Any other tips, etc would be great :)

Thanks for asking to my inbox =]
Anyways...
1. I think that running for about an hour to 2 hours is good. Make sure to start with a 10 minute warm up and about a 15 minute cool down.
2. Three times a week is plenty.
3. This depends. You didn't specify if you needed shoes for actual cross country running, or just training. If you just need them for training/recreational running, then just make sure they fit well and are comfortable on your feet. I really like my Adidas shoes. They're amazing for just recreational running. They have soemthing called a 'torsion system' and I'd reccomend that kind. Otherwise, Nike, Reebok, or any other sports brands have a great variety of shoes to choose from.
If you're doing actual cross country, you need shoes with little spikes on the bottom. Nike has some great ones.
4. Hmm any other tips,
- STRETCH. There's nothing worse than a pulled muscle or injury on your leg from lack of stretching. Make sure to stretch the back of your calves really well.
- Warm up & Cool down. It's really important.
- If you're just getting into running, I'f suggest starting by just jogging half a mile and gradually increasing.
Good Luck! =]
