In y opinion i think that maybe the person is trying to say that they are sorry that they didnt kill thier father before he died in the place he did. (cause it looks pretty awful with all the cables and things attched to him)Well thats just my opinion.

You can't be certain unless you would ask the artist of the postcard.

My interpretation would be that having a family member in a hospital and in pain and misery is a much worse situation than just ending the family member's life, ending their pain. Basically the child wished that they had put their father out of his misery instead of prolonging his life, only for it to end in death anyway.
