scrunching it may look cute. Or maybe straightening it and then putting hot rollers in your hair and then putting hair spray in looks realllly cute.

i was thinking with thick hair and medium length you could do with your hair pushed back with a stylish, solid color headband with the rest of your hair in thick curls, not spiraly but big with some bright res lipstick and a cute little dress or some funky straightlegs with a busy shirt that matches well.

You didn't say where you were going, so I'm not sure if you want something really nice, or just a different look.
Teasing your hair is really bad for it, so I don't recommed it.
If you don't normally straighten your hair, then that might be a good idea. Part it a different way then usual.
Curl it? You can wear tight or loose curls. They're cute and not too dressy or laid back kind of look. Claw it back in a clip if you want.
You could also just take a few bobbypins and pin a few strands of hair around your face back, like people do with bangs to get them out of the way.
If you didn't take a shower yet, when you get out, don't brush it. Scrunch it. If you have some curling creme, use it. Moose works too. That always looks cute.

Those just require a curling iron.

Here's just sites with varies ideas:
