what does "dust to dust" mean?

its basically saying that living things were made from dust and will return to dust in the end

it has to do with genesis (from the bible), and how in genesis people were created from dust (by god) then after people die we return to dust...its basically a saying about death.

It's part of the Christian funeral service.

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust"

Supposedly God created us from dust, and when we're buried, we eventually become dust. Hence from dust, to dust.
