Hey i ordered a japanese game for my gamecube and when i try to play it it says that the disc couldn't be read. is it because it wont work on my gamecube since i got it from america? i did notice the disc said somthing like "JAPN ONLY". just wanna know exactly cause my gamecube is pretty old so maybe it could be its performance or something. =/

Modifying your console with a mod chip WILL invalidate your consoles warrenty. So beware that you do so at your own risk. Unless you know exactly what you're doing (regarding any mod chips that require you to open up your machine) then I suggest taking it into a specialist and have them make the modifications for you. It will cost a little more and still void your warrenty BUT you can rest assured the chip was installed by a professional.
As far as I know mod chips are not illegal to buy or use.
I'm uncertain as to where you live but if you are wanting to purchase a mod chip for your console so it can play any region games you may want to try doing a search on google for places that sell them (try searching 'gamecube mod chips').
