report card blues.

Question Posted Sunday July 1 2007, 8:44 am

i had a really bad day yesterday. and in addition to that, i got my report card back.. and most of my grades were C's. i cannot believe this. i got honor roll for the first 2 marking periods (im 13/f going to 8th grade next school year) but the next one slowly i got some C's and now like my whole thing has C's! my parents will never trust me again! all the years before 7th, i'd always get straight A's with a few B's. but my grades are slipping now...? my dad saw my grades and he was dissapointed and i havent shown my mom yet but i know she'll be even more dissapointed in me! and i feel horrible now because i think i've let my teachers and family down! because they saw potential in me.. but i got stupid C's! i even got a B in home ec! i guess my life was really crazy then.. and i had bad work habits. i'd start my homework late at night and would procastinate on the computer or watching TV before. then most of the time i'd fall asleep and plan to finish homework the next day, and then i'd have to save for doing my homework in school when i realize i didnt have enough time to finish my homework. but i cant do a good job at the hw usually at school, so then my homework would like always be late or incomplete. and i never studied at home, i always did it a few minutes before a test in school. i'd always know i had to get stuff signed and then i wouldnt get it signed for days due to procastination. and cause i'd do my hw in the morning, alot of times i missed my bus.. i had to stay home twice cause my mom was sick of driving me to school all the time. i would have had perfect attendance if i never missed my bus. i didnt get to play sports in the winter and spring cause my mom didnt think i could balance work and sports when i could the years before. i really wanna do sports next year.. so how can i get my parents trust back before school starts? what are ways to develop good work habits which i sometimes lack? like everyone says im really smart but i also take a long time to finish my homework. like i'd write a long essay and get 100% but its late, so like 10 points get taken off for everyday late. then i get a 90% when my paper is better than that. how can i write less for essays? how can i manage my time better and not get distracted? what are ways for me to get concentrated fast so i dont lose interest and go do something else other than homework? but basically.. i just wanna gain my trust back and stuff like that. :( thanks for answering it means the world to me!

wow thats long hah. well first things first you need to rethink your prioities.whats more important tv or studying. Next C's arent so bad it's average you and your parents probably think you can do better(same here for me) anyways it sounds like you jsut got lazy. i think you should take sometime this summer and catch up on things, for example look over past test you didnt do so good on and let your parents in on what you are doing. You can even have them make test that have to do with the test and then them test you on it. It might sound geeky but its true. Another thing is that Sports can actualy help you mantain your homework and studing. Because you have to manage your time better when you have practices or have a game. You have to think ahead, like when you are going to be write an essay if you have practice 3 hours after school, that type of thing. I think you should jsut show your parents that you know what you did was wrong and you shouldn't have done it. Let them know it wont happen again and keep your promise Im going to be a freshman next year and if 8th grade is anything like it was here itss hard. and its going to make you work for your grades dont go thinking your going to have a hard time adn not make it because you will as long as you try. think of it this way at least you have time to get ack your good work habits before you get to high school =) hope I helped you.

First, you should talk to your parents about playing sports. It is a proven fact that participating in sports helps you focus more in school. ((you should use this as your argumental point when talking to your parents)) Then when you are trying to do your homework I would suggest turning the computer and t.v. off to help take away some of the distractions. Also find a calm and quiet space to do your homework. I also find it helpful to use the extra time in class and my studyhall productivly. If you ever have trouble forgeting you assigments till last minute you should get an assignment notebook and write down the things you need to do. As for quizzes and test you should make flash cards and study in advance. ((i know that sucks...i dont even do it, but it helps)) Another way is to get extra help with the teacher to learn about the material on the test, and the things you are still confused about. And as for essays your out of luck, essays are very hard to make a set amount of writting, but before writting an essay it helps to make an outline with some of your main points. And if your uninterested in what your learning sometimes it helps to talk to the teacher, sometimes they will find ways to make what your learning a bit more interesting. I hope this was helpful--I just wrote all of the things people have told me throughout the years, so i know exactly how you feel...good luck :)
