I need stye help badly. Is there anything you can do?

Question Posted Friday June 29 2007, 7:25 pm

I get styes a lot, and in March I had surgery to get rid of them. This surgery cost 8000 dollars. My parents did not know this before the surgery and were surprised when they got the bill. They had to pay only 1800 of that because our insurance covered the rest. This was still a lot of money for my family. My mom thinks that the styes are caused by my make-up, but I think differently. I believe that the styes came from the hormone changes I was experiencing at puberty. My mom will not allow me to wear make-up anymore because she does not want to pay for another surgery. If you have any information regarding the way to cure styes and help me convince my mom to let me wear make-up please answer this. I would really appreciate any help, styes have affected my life a lot because I have been teased by kids at my school often for having big red bumps on my eyes.

Thanks,
Kayla

Hey,
First of all, i'm sorry for taking a long time to answer your question, cause i haven't been logging on the site for a long time now. But now that i'm here and have read your question and understand what your going through, I want to help you gain self confidence in yourself first because here, we are talking about a medical condition and not something to share as a joke between friends, so i do understand how hard it must be for you to be teased by those kids, but seriously screw them because they ARE kids and they don't understand anything, so don't let people let you down and upset you especially if its something about a topic like such.
Second of all, since i'm only like 14-15 years old, i consulted my father whose a doctor and he said that makeup DOES cause these styes and that it plays a great role in causing them. i guess makeup doesn't affect everyone since alot of people wear it and they are not affected by styes ,but others are, and i guess ,you are affected by makeup. So I'm sorry, but i do agree with your mother that you should not wear makeup, and although that is really annoying, but you'll see yourself that if you stop wearing make up, then the styes would not come back.
Oh and another source of styes could be if you have diabetes. So if it is possible that you can reply and tell me if you do have diabetes or not, and if you don't know, its important to consult a doctor, and also tell me how old are you, and i'll consult my dad again and tell you more.
And please check this site if you want, cause it could contain some useful information about the treatment of styes

I hope i was able to help you and provide you with the information you want about styes. And if you would like me to help you further, please be free to contact me through my inbox here on the site, or if you would prefer to keep it private, you can email me on my address alaa-abuali@hotmail.com.
