You know the little stick inside of them?
I'm not really sure what it's called but its like a pointy filer.
Try that. It usually cleans some of the stuff out.
Also, when you wash your hands or when you're in the shower, let the water run on them.

They are not very healthy at all, but it looks nice.
Maybe you shouldn't do it so much, just every once in a while.
