Michele answered Friday June 22 2007, 9:29 pm:
Ralph Ellison was a black man. It was sort of a documentary on his life. He felt that being black made him invisible in society. The American Dream didn't exist for people like him, people of color. Opportunities passed him by. He could fall off the face of the earth and no one would notice. He could only get a poor education, he could only get a menial job. He could only live in poor run down neighborhoods. HE wasn't welcome where most white people were welcome. Of course this is how it was in the 50's and 60's. Things are better today.
